for time in southern hemisphere 2 shows only
dates

Shpongle are in Australia for one weekend in midsummer. On Friday January 14th they play at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre, and head up to Sydney on Saturday 15th to play The Enmore Theatre. Both venues are perfect settings for Shpongle’s live electronic crossover.

We are delighted to announce, for the first time anywhere in the southern hemisphere, two intimate live performances by Shpongle.

For two shows only in a unique live setting at intimate and historic venues in Sydney and Melbourne. The full ten-piece ensemble includes founding members Simon Posford and Raja Ram, together with live vocals, cello, drums, keyboards and ethnic and Eastern instruments that have helped to forge their fluid, evocative sound.

From pure electronic beginnings of their early releases, Shpongle has evolved into a full live experience, crossing over into jamband and world music headspaces. They describe their sound as "a strange hybrid of electronic manipulation and shamanic midgets with frozen digits squeezing the envelope and crawling through the doors of perception." We might describe it as a thoroughly unique, once-in-a-lifetime live experience you won’t want to miss.

Shpongle formed in 1996 after Raja Ram and Simon Posford viewed a solar eclipse in India. The two went into the studio and attempted to duplicate the experience in sonic form, and the result was a 20-minute track, ... And the Day Turned to Night, which was featured on Shpongle's first album Are You Shpongled? and the Twisted label compilation Eclipse.

The evolution of their sound has seen their music become more experimental, more rounded, and more adventurous. Their 2005 album Nothing Lasts But Nothing Is Lost is regarded as a high-point, and 2009’s Ineffable Mysteries From Shpongleland still rings in the ears of fans and critics worldwide.
